The sticker charts on the blue door are homework trackers. If they turn in their homework for math/reading they get a sticker on the respective chart. The "Wall of Class Averages" eventually contained our class average on the previous weeks math and reading tests, and also had a section which displayed "100%" work - or exemplars - for other students to look at. The little robots hanging on the wall tracked their progress in counting (the head is counting to 100, the body is counting by 10's, the arms are counting by 5s and 2s, etc.). The "Technology Center" eventually contained student logins and passwords; teaching first grade I never feared that students would get the idea to log in under any name but their own, so displaying their usernames and passwords was not a problem. The "Math Toolkit" is a public tracker; if the student got 100% on a math unit test they got a tool with their name on it (like a little hammer or saw). This idea was a great investment strategy, but was loads of work; my advice would be to cut out the tools in September before the school year starts and have them on hand. The big tree was filled throughout the school year with leaves, each one containing a compliment given to our class by another teacher or administrator. The kids were very excited about adding leaves whenever some one would comment on how nicely we walking in a line to specials or when we returned all of our library books on time.
